WHAT IS A B CORP?
Wallaroo Hat Company became a Certified B Corporation in 2014, and recertified in 2016. B Corps are new types of companies which use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.
Wallaroo Hat Company was certified by the non-profit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. We’ve evaluated how our practices impact our employees, our community, the environment, and our customers.
Today, there are over 1,300 Certified B Corps around the globe, including Patagonia, Namaste Solar, and Klean Kanteen. We are proud to join them in redefining success in business, so that one day everyone uses business as a force for good. To learn more about our certification, check out our B Corp profile.
B Corp Certification
Becoming a B Corp was important for Wallaroo Hat Company because we believe that we can change the world for the better when we combine our efforts with other like-minded companies. We want to raise the global vibration and be a part of something that will incorporate sustainability, longevity and positive environmental results. We are committed to continuing to improve our business methods and our impact on the world we live in.
Wallaroo Hat Company seeks to inspire and educate other businesses and their customers, by investing their resources and energy into promoting the social and environmental welfare of their communities. Wallaroo is trying to accomplish this through their Sun Protection Commitment campaign. This program, which was started five years ago, donates 1% of the net profits of the company each year to organizations that help prevent skin cancer through education, prevention and research. Not only does Wallaroo donate 1% of their net profits each year, they also donate hats to relief organizations, like the Airline Ambassador program, that operate in countries that have been affected by natural disasters. Wallaroo also donates product to silent auctions, schools and fund raising events to help promote skin cancer awareness and prevention. Wallaroo Hat Company is also actively involved in the Headwear Association, which features several hat wearing events each year. One of these events is Hat Day in the Sun, which takes place every June where Wallaroo gives away several hundred hats to members of the public after answering a short sun safety questionnaire.
Wallaroo Hat Company prides itself on a working environment where our employees feel vested in their jobs and are happy to come to work each day. Over the course of the last 15 years, Wallaroo has held several team building activities that support causes we feel passionate about. After Hurricane Katrina, Wallaroo took their entire staff to a fund raising benefit concert featuring the Dave Matthews band. All of the proceeds raised at that concert went to disaster relief for victims of the hurricane. Wallaroo holds other team building activities during the course of each year that allow their employees to experience different environments outside of the corporate office. These activities have included historical bus tours of Boulder, musical concerts at local venues and corporate retreats. Wallaroo has participated in the 4th of July parade in Aspen, Colorado multiple times and handed out over 300 hats to spectators. This gave our employees an opportunity to see the direct impact our company has on the skin cancer prevention front as well as a chance to interact with the customers that support our brand. Wallaroo is committed to increasing sun protection and prevention across the United States through its fashionable and functional messages. It’s a sunny life- wear a hat!
